Donald V. Fischer was born to Paul and Agnes Phillip-Fischer on July 29, 1924 at the family farm near Rockville, Missouri and passed away November 28, 2012 in Appleton City, Missouri, just as the full moon was ready to set and the sun was ready to rise on a beautiful November morning.

Donald was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church at Prairie City, Missouri, where he was baptized, confirmed and faithfully attended as long as he was able.

In World War II, Donald served his country as a member of the occupational force in Korea, helping the civilians and rounding up Japanese POW's.

After the war Donald returned home to farm with his dad. He lived with and took care of his parents until the time of their passing. On January 3, 1979 Donald married Leanna Wood-Martin at Zion Lutheran Church and they enjoyed over 30 years together before her death in 2009. He set a great example for all with the care and love that he provided as Leanna's health failed.

Donald loved to farm, raising crops and cattle and being involved in all the things that go with farming as long as he was able. Many will remember him sitting on his favorite John Deere tractor with a big straw hat on his head and a big grin on his face. He also loved a good fish-fry or a big bowl of homemade ice cream covered with fresh strawberries.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife Leanna, his parents Paul and Agnes Fischer, brothers-in-law Victor Rapp and June Gragg, brother-in-law John Wood and his wife Fannie and nieces Sharon Rapp-Flesch and Barbara Wood. He is survived by two sisters Ruth Rapp of Appleton City, Missouri and Verna Smith and husband Edson of Ventura, California, his brother Junior Fischer and wife Charlotte of Terra Haute, Indiana and sister-in-law Marlyne (Tommy) Gragg of Rockville, Missouri. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews and their children, many cousins, lots of friends, especially those he made while he lived at the assisted living and nursing home and who helped care for him when he needed it most.
