Donald Walton
Dixon
Jan 30, 1949 — Nov 20, 2025
Appleton City
Donald Walton Dixon was born on January 30, 1949, in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, to Minnie Alice Hurley and Clovis Walton Dixon. His family always joked—lovingly, of course—that he must've been switched at birth, because there was just no way his sweet Mama, who lived up to the meaning of her gentle name, could've birthed a baby with a head that size. From the start, Donnie made an impression.
He spent his childhood roaming between Arkansas, Missouri, Colorado, and California, picking up stories, mischief, and dirt under his nails everywhere he went.
As a young man, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving proudly until he was honorably discharged after an injury. Donnie was a Marine in his heart for life—he wore it on his sleeve, figuratively and literally, as anyone who remembers that USMC forearm tattoo can attest. He never missed a chance to thank a fellow Veteran, and he was a patriot in every sense of the word.
After leaving the service, Donnie lived more lives than most folks could fit into one lifetime. He trained as a scuba dive instructor, served as a guard for then-Governor Ronald Reagan, managed a security company, and eventually found the trade that became his calling: welding and fabricating. He worked as a Union Engineer for Kroger in Wilmington, California, earning numerous commendations for his skill, dedication, and blue-collar pride until retiring in 2002.
Even off the clock, Don's hands never stopped working. Weekends were spent welding land sailors, refinishing cars, building furniture, customizing Harleys, and turning "junk" into something useful or beautiful—depending on who you asked. Donnie believed anything could be fixed if you had the right tools and enough determination.
Donnie was also a self-proclaimed ladies' man—just ask him, he'd tell you. Over the years he loved deeply and boldly. He even claimed he once stole a kiss from Stevie Nicks during a night out. Ms. Nicks has never disputed the story… which, in Donnie's book, meant full confirmation. And Lord knows, if there were women listening, Donnie could spin a tale big enough to rope the moon.
But out of everybody he loved, his children and grandchildren had his whole heart. He was Daddy to Lance Walton Dixon and Jaclyn Pauline Dixon, and bonus-dad to Brittanni Gabrielle Turner. From them came his treasured grandchildren—Caressa Marie, Alexis Gabrielle, and Kade Murphy. He beamed when he talked about them, bragged whenever he had the chance, and never missed an opportunity to remind folks how proud he was to be their Papa.
He loved trips to the lake, camping, flea markets, movie nights, trying new restaurants, and being surrounded by his family and his chosen family. Donnie also loved to cook—especially for other people—and plenty of folks will forever remember being fed by his hands and his heart.
Donnie's imagination was as big as his personality. He was a deep thinker who adored history, the unexplained, conspiracy theories, biblical mysteries, and the possibility of life beyond Earth. He was even a field investigator with the Mutual UFO Network, and if you had a strange light in the sky, Donnie was the man to call.
He will be sorely missed by his family, by the many people he gathered along the way and called family, by friends old and new, and by his best girl—his loyal companion, Purdy.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Clovis Dixon and Alice Martin, and infant sister Belinda Dixon.
He is survived by his step-father Morgan Eugene Martin; sisters Paula Cleveland and Christina Hayes (Jim), brother Scott Dixon (Monica), his son Lance Dixon (Carrie); daughter Jaclyn Dixon (Brett Young); stepdaughter Brittanni Turner (Ryan); adopted daughters Kaitlyn Cesario and Constance Snyder, adopted sons Arthur Nicholson and Anthony Garibaldi, along with his beloved grandchildren; extended family; countless friends; and Purdy, who never let him out of her sight until she had to.
A life this full can't be summed up in words alone, but those who loved him know: the world is a little quieter, and heaven just got one hell of a storyteller.
