Obituary

The SERVICE for Mr. Lewis will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri.

OFFICIATING at the service will be Mike Lewis.

VISITATION will be between 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. preceding the funeral.

A MILITARY PRESENTATION will be by Montrose VFW Post #8820 and Missouri Honor Guard - Navy.

INURNMENT will be in Urich Cemetery, Urich, Missouri at a later date.

The family requests any donations given in Daniel's memory be given to a family love fund and may be left at the funeral home.

Daniel Joseph Lewis 75 years old, the son of Daniel Francis and Betty Lou (Canterbury) Lewis, was born April 29, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri and passed away peacefully at his home in Montrose, Missouri on February 27, 2018. He attended Raytown Elementary School and later moved to Urich, where he attended High School. He then completed a GED before joining the United States Navy, where with great dedication he served his country proudly. After completing this service, he worked as a pipe fitter for local union 533 for more than 40 years until his retirement in 2003. He married Virginia Cook in 1963 and to this union four children were born: Daniel, Rebecca, David, and Melissa.

Daniel always had a positive attitude. He worked hard all his life, but never forgot how important laughter was. Anyone that knew him said he lived with integrity and honorable courage all his days. Daniel loved hunting, fishing and camping. He instilled in his family, a lov e of nature and the outdoors. Watching sports, especially the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, were some of his favorite activities. Apart from these hobbies, his family remained the most important part of his life and Daniel had a loving relationship with all of them, especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Francis and Betty Lou (Canterbury) Lewis; one son, David Lewis; two brothers, Tom Lewis and Tim Lewis; and one sister Elizabeth "Bet" Applegate.

He is survived by his son Daniel Francis (Victoria) Lewis of Montrose, Missouri; two daughters, Rebecca Lynne (Steve) Traugott of Star City, Arkansas and Melissa Dawn (Travis) Basore of Montrose, Missouri; and David's widow, Dana Lewis; five sisters: Sue (Joe) Hernandez, Penny Catron, Deborah Beebe, Peggy Lewis; and Pat Bridgwater along with 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many friends. Daniel will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
