Clara Jeannette Fairburn, daughter of Cleveland B. and Julia (DeWeese) Lawson, was born August 6, 1938 in Bates County, Missouri. She passed away at her home in rural Bates County May 23, 2006 at 67 years of age.

Clara attended Oak Grove School through the 8th grade and graduated from Appleton City High School. She then attended Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis, Minnesota for two years. After college she joined the U.S. Army. Following her six years of military service she was united in marriage to William Fairburn on June 19, 1969 at the Methodist Church in Appleton City, Missouri. Mr. and Mrs. Fairburn lived in several places while he served in the armed forces and then settled in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 1999, she moved back to Missouri in rural Bates County where she spent the remainder of her life.

Mrs. Fairburn was a current member of the First Baptist Church in Appleton City. She was also a member of the Rural Home Improvement Club and the Green Valley Club. Clara enjoyed gardening and raising roses. She liked caring for, and watching her guineas and chickens.

Preceding Clara in death were her parents, her husband and one brother John Lawson. Survivors include her two children, Tim Fairburn of Butler, Missouri and Suzanne Smith of Alexandria, Egypt; two brothers, Clyde Lawson of Buena Vista, Colorado and Robert Lawson of Madrid, Iowa; four sisters, Helen Romero of Costa Mesa, California, Mary Thayer of Evansville, Indiana, Mabel Brewer of Appleton City, Missouri, and Louetta Choat of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two grandsons, Daniel and Nathaniel Smith; many nieces and nephews.
