Bernard Herman "Bernie" Schallert, son of Gottlieb and Agnes (Dampf) Schallert, was born January 6, 1917 in Montrose, Missouri. He passed away at the Medicalodge of Butler in Butler, Missouri May 25, 2006 at 89 years of age.
Bernie spent all his life in Montrose except for the years he served in the U.S. Air Force while stationed in the Philippines working as a mechanic. He was a farmer all of his life and also a rural mail carrier for several years. Bernie loved the farm life and was a hard worker and dedicated to his family and friends. He was united in marriage to Helen (Sickman) Foster January 17, 1992 in Montrose. After retirement Bernie and Helen delivered meals to senior citizens. Mr. Schallert was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Knight's of Columbus.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Dalene Schallert; one brother Maurice Schallert; a sister-in-law Lucy Schallert; a brother-in-law Elton Cook; and a nephew Eddie Schallert. Survivors include his wife Helen of the home; two brothers, Cletus Schallert and wife Waneta of Montrose, Missouri and Larry Schallert and wife Beverly of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and two sisters Alvena and husband Elmer Linenberger of Deepwater, Missouri and Pat Cook of Raytown, Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews.
