Obituary

The FUNERAL SERVICE for Mrs. Smith will be held at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri on Saturday, February 7, 2015
at 11:00 a.m.

The MINISTER for the service will be Pastor Tony Reynolds.

VISITATION will be held at Hill and Son Funeral Home on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 10:30 a.m.

INTERMENT will be in the Appleton City Cemetery, Appleton City, Missouri.

Alice Ladine (Burch) Smith, daughter of Carl Oliver and Lelah May (Rains) Burch was born in Appleton City, Missouri on October 30, 1924. She passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 in Torrance, California at 90 years of age.

Growing up, Ladine lived on a farm near Butler, Missouri and attended a country school near her home, later graduating from Appleton City High School. After high school, she went to Warrensburg Teachers College and earned her Education degree. She taught school for over a year at a one room schoolhouse near Appleton City.

Ladine was united in marriage to John D. Smith on March 16, 1944. After their marriage, they moved to Tuscon, Arizona where he was stationed in the U. S. Air Force. After the war was over and he was discharged, they moved back to a farm near Appleton City. They resided there for a number of years before moving to various towns in the Kansas City, Missouri vicinity.

Ladine had been a faithful member of the Belton Christan Church since 1960. She was very active in many church events and taught kindergarten class for many years as well as volunteering for Vacation Bible School.

Ladine was always involved with her children's activities whether it was sports, band, clubs or PTA where she was treasurer for many years. In May of 2010, she moved to Manhattan Beach, California to be close to her daughter and family.

Ladine was preceded in death by her husband John; daughter Ella May Smith at age three; and grandson Bryan Smith. Survivors include her son Rick Smith and wife Charlotte of Mandeville, LA and their children, Jeremy Smith of Kansas City, MO,Kelly Presley and husband Pierce of Malvern, AR and Krissy Goebel of Mandeville, LA; daughter Marla Chabner and husband Brandon of Manhattan Beach, CA and their son Ben Chabner; great-grandchildren: Justin, Courtney, Laura, Cane and Ashley; sister Barbara Wade and husband Ivan of Overland Park, KS; brothers Robert Burch and wife Janet of Adrian, MO and Leland Burch and wife Sara of Butler, MO.

Ladine was a very vibrant person who loved to spend time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
