Alma Adelaide Schellman, 99, was born August 31, 1909 in the Pleasant Gap, Missouri Township. She was the daughter of Edward and Alma (Hirschi) Hirni. Adelaide passed away quietly at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home in Appleton City, Missouri on December 19, 2008.
Almost all of Adelaide's life was spent in Prairie City, Missouri. She attended Rockville Elementary and High School where she graduated Valedictorian of her class in 1926. Adelaide and August "Shelly" Schellman were united in marriage September 2, 1929 in Butler, Missouri. The Schellman's were blessed with three children. They lived on a farm near Prairie City where she was contented being a farmer's wife and a mother. Milking brought her great pleasure and she also enjoyed raising flowers and crocheting gifts for her family. She liked baseball and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals fan. Adelaide cherished the time spent with her family and especially her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was a modest woman who enjoyed the peace and solitude of rural life. She preferred to be quiet and reserved rather than the center of attention.
Mrs. Schellman was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Prairie City and had belonged to the Ladies Aid for many years.
Preceding Adelaide in death were her parents, her husband, a daughter Joan Schellman, a brother Troy Hirni, two sisters Ruby Watson and Evelyn Schapeler, a grandson Rodney Bracher and a daughter-in-law Fran Schellman.
Survivors include a daughter Sandra and husband Leroy Bracher and a son Dane Schellman all of Rockville, Missouri, a brother Leroy Hirni of Anacortes, Washington, a sister-in-law Norma Hirni of Holden, Missouri, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
